Review: Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant
Looking for a Cowboy
Donna Grant
Heart of Texas Series, Book 5
A cowboy finds love in the most unlikely place in New York Times bestseller Donna Grant’s newest Heart of Texas novel, Looking for a Cowboy
A beautiful stranger has come to Clearview, asking questions that are nobody’s business. Cooper Owens also wasn’t born yesterday. He knows that this out-of-towner is hiding a dark secret of her own. Much as he knows he should head in the other direction, he can’t make himself turn away. . .
P.I. Marlee Frampton always wanted to lead a nice quiet life, working as a cop in her local police department. But that dream came to an end when her sister was murdered―and her baby kidnapped. Now Marlee’s come to Texas to investigate the Harpers, who may be linked to shady adoption agencies. Cooper can’t believe that his friends could be involved in anything so sinister…and soon he makes it his mission to help Marlee discover the truth―and keep her safe in his arms.

Have you ever had a book hit you out of left field and hit you like a ton of bricks, in the best reading way of course? I went into reading Looking for a Cowboy with no expectations other than to get lost in a book for a few hours. Did I get lost, you ask? It was so much more. Looking for a Cowboy consumed me in every way that a reader loves to be consumed in a book.
Marlee Frampton is smart, cunning and determined. This woman took the worst event of her life and made it a mission to help right these wrongs. She’s like a wall of glass and steel all in one. The amount of compassion within her is amazing yet what she does is a constant reminder of her own loss. She’s too brave for her own good. Yet that is one of her best qualities. There is not time or room for love in her life yet sometimes a girls got to be good to herself. That goodness just may have become a thing she needs most.
Cooper Owens is a genuine good man. As loyal as they come. He may not be settled into a career but what he does for others more than makes up for it. A man who believes friends are family and would do anything for them. When a PI starts snooping in on his beloved friends, Cooper gets to the down, Only to find out the situation is much bigger than him. But that lovely PI, has got him twisted in a way or two. Cooper calls on the troops to do what they do best and tries to get the girl to believe in love at first sight.
Looking for a Cowboy is an emotionally charged story with subject matter that some will find extremely delicate and dark. Within also lies a story of determination, hope and love. Ms. Grant has given readers a story that I was compelled to read and not stop until I was finished. The suspense and the twist of the story will get you one way and the emotions and romance will get you in another. The loyalty of friendship and family is something unbreakable and a force to be reckoned with. This story will take you from the most brutal of loss to a profound happiness. I haven’t had a book take me like this in quite some time and I have to say it was quite unexpected, and I couldn’t be more happy. Looking for a Cowboy is definitely a recommended read from me.
Review: Luckiest Cowboy of All by Carolyn Brown

A secret baby brings a second chance for love. Carlene Varner’s homecoming isn’t exactly going according to plan. She thought she’d have some time to adjust before introducing her daughter to Jace Dawson, the father her little girl has never known. Instead, within days of her arrival, her house burns down and she and Tilly have no choice but to move in with the sexy cowboy himself at the Prairie Rose ranch. Now the whole Dawson clan-heck, the whole town of Happy-is all up in their business.
Jace has dealt with stubborn bulls and bucking broncos-but being a dad? He is so not ready for this… Yet the more time he spends with Carlene and little Tilly, the harder it is to imagine life without them. Now he just has to convince Carlene that he’s the real deal-and hope that this time she’s here to stay.
Luckiest Cowboy of All by Carolyn Brown is the final book in her Lucky, Texas series. Ms. Brown has once again brought together some characters who entertain with tender moments, family love and unity, witty conversations and fun scenes. These characters are so true to life that I found myself looking at them as friends and family as I read their stories. In this book Carlene Varner returns to Happy, Texas with her third grade, 8 1/2 year old daughter, Tilly because she wants her daughter to grow up in a place where she can happily put down roots. This is something she didn’t have growing up since her family moved every couple years. Carlene knows she will see Jace Dawson who she dated in high school since Happy is such a small town. What happens when they do meet again is a special and enlightening scene in the story. Needless to say the attraction between them is still as hot as ever. What happens along the way to Carlene and Jace finding their Happily Ever After is a fun read.
Carolyn Brown has a brilliant talent when it comes to writing child characters. In my opinion in this story little Tilly absolutely steals the show. She is a chatty, independent whirlwind of a kid and I found her to be the best part of the story. The things this child says are a hoot! For instance how she relates the story of when she saw a mouse in the falling down house she and her mother have moved into really made me laugh. She said, “I think I saw a mouse yesterday. But I didn’t cuss – even though I wanted to – because that get’s me in trouble.” I love this kid!
Reading the next book in a Carolyn Brown series gives you the warm feeling of coming home again after being away for a while. That’s a really great feeling. Pick up Luckiest Cowboy of All and enjoy the warm feeling of getting to know down-home characters in a makes-you-feel-good story.

Sweet, compassionate and sexy!
Austin is a man not to be judged by his looks. Yes, he’s fall down gorgeous, built and has every alpha tendency you could imagine. Not to mention the tattoos. Under his dominating exterior is a kind, caring and compassionate man that you don’t see coming. Austin is a dream come true. His mama raised him right. Austin is a true gentleman.
Hayden is a wonderful woman with dreams and aspirations who got a bad deal with the wrong man. In a moment of desperation she finds strength. Hayden is a stubborn woman but her bravery is beyond the stars. She’s an honest woman admitting to her not so wise choices and a conviction to see things to the end. She needs, for her own piece of mind, to know she can handle herself on her own before she can commit to a life of more.
Stay just a bit longer – Words of need and compassion. Austin and Hayden meet in the craziest of situations. Being a good man, Austin sees Hayden for what she is, not only beautiful, but a woman in true need of help. Austin unknowingly gives Hayden a peace that she’s never experienced. The compassion and warmth of Austin allows Hayden to begin to heal and discover herself. Love is a bumpy road, working hard to make it work and all of patience. Seeing Austin and Hayden take that road, made a story I fell in love with.

Their love never died, but her secrets could break his trust beyond repair.
After six years and too much self-recrimination, rancher Mitch Landry is ready to admit he was wrong. He’d loved Olivia Montgomery but commitment wasn’t high on his list back then. That was his first mistake. He’s just divorced his second, and he’s set to do whatever it takes to convince Olivia to give him another try.
Through hard work, determination and more than a few tears, Olivia survived the break-up with Mitch. She’s rebuilt her life around her business and the son she loves more than life itself. She’s not proud of the mistakes she’s made—particularly the secrets she’s kept—but when life hands you manure, you use it to make something better of yourself…lest you get stuck in it.
At a hot, muggy Dallas wedding, they reconnect. Olivia’s first instinct is to play it cool, but after one devastating kiss things flare real out of control, real fast. Maybe a quick roll in the hay will get him out of her system once and for all. Funny thing about hay though, once it’s tangled in your hair, getting it out risks revealing things that were never meant to see the light of day.
Warning: Contains hot sex, a vindictive ex-wife, and hot chocolate chip cookies.

About Cynthia D’Alba

I spent seventeen years in the healthcare field. I worked as an RN, taught Obstetrics in an RN program, coordinated a prenatal screening program and then was Medical Services Director at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and ended my medical career as an Administrator for a private group medical practice. I missed academic and left medicine to return to the University of Memphis as Director of Graduate Programs at the Fogelman College of Business. I grabbed the opportunity to return to Arkansas by taking a position as Assistant Dean for Executive Programs in the College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. It was there that I finished my education by earning a doctorate in Higher Education Administration. In 2002, I retired and took up the pastime that had consumed all my spare time my entire life –reading, a new book every day. I’ve been a reader as far back as I can remember – including forging letters from my mother when I was in grade school so I could stay in from recess and read! I cut my teeth on Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon, and The Hardy Boys.
When I decided to try my hand at writing, I did what any academic would do; I decided to get as much information about the craft as I could. I traveled a great deal in 2006, meeting people and learning about writing as an art.
Since my husband retired in 2003, we’ve split our time between home in Arkansas and home in our RV on the road somewhere. But we don’t travel alone. We have Maggie (Border Collie), Jill (Flat Coated Retriever) and Panama (Spoiled Parrot).
So, that’s my story. I travel. I read. I write. I erase what I wrote. And FINALLY…I can say…I SOLD!
Look for me on the road! You never know when we might meet!

ARC Review: Trouble Maker by Liliana Hart
Trouble Maker
Liliana Hart
Marnie Whitlock has never known what it’s like to be normal. She and her family moved from place to place, hiding from reporters and psychologists, all because of her gift. A curse was more like it. Seeing a victim, feeling his pain as the last of his life ebbed away, and being helpless to save him. It was torture. And then one day it disappeared and she was free. Until those who hunted her for her gift tried to kill her. And then the gift came back with a vengeance.
Beckett Hamilton leads a simple life. His ranch is profitable and a legacy he’ll be proud to pass onto his children one day, work fills his time from sunup to sundown, and his romances are short and sweet. He wouldn’t have it any other way. And then he runs into quiet and reserved Marnie Whitlock just after she moves to town. She intrigues him like no woman ever has. And she’s hiding something. His hope is that she begins to trust him before it’s too late.

Oh my goodness, holy hot cowboy!
Marnie has seen and experienced enough hurt to last many lifetimes. Yet she finds courage within herself to continue on. A special gift give Marnie an extra insight to thing around her. A bless and a curse both in her eyes. Trust misplaced has Marnie starting over in her hometown. Holding her head high, proud of watch she can do, Marnie takes on her life with all she has. An extraordinary character.
Beckett made me fall for a cowboy. A man who’s proud of who he is, what he does and the legacy he puts his soul into. A good hearted man, who loyal, trustworthy, and good to his word. Sexy and built, with the patience of a saint. Beckett work his cowboy way into my heart.
Trouble Maker is my first sampling of Liliana Hart’s work and will not be my last. Heartbreaking and warning all in one. Power packed with emotion and lingering passion that spans over a decade. A second chance romance that was only ignited before it was torn apart. A novella that hits you hard in all the right ways. Hang on for a one emotional and sexy ride.

Lone Rider
B.J. Daniels
The Montana Hamiltons Series, Book 2

A cowgirl at heart, Bo Hamilton does her best thinking in wide-open spaces. So when money goes missing from the family foundation she runs—meaning one of her trusted, ragtag employees is a thief—Bo rides into the Crazy Mountains to figure things out. For his sibling’s sake, Jace is going after Bo and bringing her home to face the truth. But in the wild, rugged Crazy Mountains, he finds Bo at the mercy of a suspected murderer. As her only hope, Jace is about to find out what they’re both made of.
My first BJ Daniels read will not be my last.
Lone Rider is a reach and grab you, holy crap did that just happen and damn I didn’t see that flippin coming kind of book. BJ Daniels has taken every aspect of a great romance and puts it all into one book.
Lone Ride is thrilling adventure that will have you turning the pages to keep up. Perfectly written descriptions keeps the reader in tune with the surroundings and complex characters. The suspense will keep you on edge while plot twist add a whole new ride to the game. A must read for any Romantic Suspense lover.
BJ Daniels gave this reader a one sit read in a subject that is not a top pic. She made me a fan with one book!
Review: Baer Truth by Jocie McKade
Jocie McKade
The Three Baers, Book 1
Vegetarian punk rocker, Abby Clark is kicked off the band tour bus in the middle of nowhere. That happens to be Sentinel, Wyoming in the dead of winter. With a talent for cooking and the singing voice of an angel she manages to disturb a very cranky, cold-hearted bear — Baer.
Joe Baer, is a sexy Wyoming beef rancher with women issues. His ranch is slipping through his fingers, he’s been betrayed by family, and he discovers a family secret that leaves him reeling.
Snow, out of control tractors, a wayward, but affectionate Angus bull, one hot country superstar, an unforgettable rodeo, and two jaded souls that just might be able to melt each other’s hearts when they find out, The Baer Truth.
4.5 Stars
Jocie McKade will make you laugh until it hurts.
Opposites attract is a big understatement when it comes to Joe and Abby. She’s a punk rock singing, potty mouthed, city girl. He’s a born and bred ranch running, kind of grumpy cowboy. Hello night, meet day! But somehow they ruffle one another feathers like no other.
Jocie McKade combines both humor and romance to create a laugh out loud story. My kids looked at me like I was crazy while reading Baer Truth! I can’t tell you what I enjoyed more. The fact that our lead lady is a bigger walking catastrophe than I am. Or the dialogue between all the characters. Whit, personally, sass and charisma draw you in, while Ms. McKade’s humor will keep you reading.
You want a damn good laugh? Read BARE TRUTH!!!!

Guest Review by Slick Reads: Naked Desire by Desiree Holt
Desiree Holt
Naked Cowboys, Book 5
Jesse Orosco is ready to roll up his sleeves to renovate Cyn’s storefront, but it’s the self-doubt lurking in her beautiful eyes he wants to tackle first. The five-foot-nothing red-headed dynamo makes his mouth water, and not just because of the tantalizing aromas drifting from the back of her shop.
The buzz about the rub’s mysterious ingredient has customers lining up for more, and soon everyone who tries it is making beautiful music in the bedroom—including Cyn and Jesse. But her reluctance to go public with their relationship—and someone in town with a jealous bone to pick—could drive a wedge between Cyn and her smoking-hot cowboy.
Warning: Contains a sexy carpenter with calluses in all the right places, a vulnerable woman who’s locked away more than a secret ingredient in her wounded heart, and a town full of matchmakers with an appetite for love.
I’ve been a lover of author Desiree Holt’s Naked Cowboy series since its inception and right now I’d like to give her a big ol’ smooch for writing an older heroine/younger hero story. Sure there are some books out there with this troupe but not near as many as the other way around and what I loved about this one is the hero was dead set on making this relationship a go from day one. Cynfully sexy (take my word you’ll understand that once you read the book) but mixed with humor and small town dramatics Naked Desire is another fantastic addition to an already great series.
Cynthia Dellinger has moved to Saddle Wells following a devastating divorce in which she got the one thing that mattered to her; her grandfather’s secret bar-b-que spice rub and sauce recipes which made her ex-husband a fortune at his restaurants. Now in the heart of Texas in prime bar-b-que country Cynthia is risking it all in hopes of making her store a success. What she doesn’t expect is to find herself attracted to her much younger contractor, Jesse Orosco. She really doesn’t expect to find that Jesse wants her and is willing to do whatever is necessary to make her understand.
First off, I love loved the interplay between all the women in this book. All of them are from the previous books in this series and while it is great for readers of this series to see them all again, this book can absolutely be read as a standalone story. I love how this group of women has become so close, how they are there to boost each other up, and to lend a hand or a shoulder when needed. There is so much to be said for great friendship and this series proves that point time and time again. It helps that these ladies put Jesse in Cyn’s path and then encourage her when she is nervous about the age difference.
Jesse, wow…it was so easy to love this quiet man who knew what he wanted and went after it with his whole self. There is something so sexy about a man who chooses to pursue a woman and sticks to it no matter what obstacles get in their way or how many roadblocks she tries to throw at him. He was smart, sexy and very determined yet he was equally gentle, kind, and knew when to move forward and when to back off. While 8 years younger than the heroine he absolutely had a great head on his shoulders and proved time and time again his maturity.
I admired Cynthia so much for picking up her life, moving half way across the country, and starting over all on her own. Having her self esteem crushed, and not believing in herself was tough to overcome and I was so glad she found great friends and a man who helped her to see she was capable of doing whatever (and whoever) she wanted!
There’s never a dull moment in a Naked Cowboy story and Naked Desire is no different. If you enjoy lively characters, sexy romance, and some humor thrown in for good measure I urge you to check out this author and this series.
Review: Long Hard Ride
Long Hard Ride
Lorelei James
Rough Riders series, Book 1
Channing Kinkaid itches for a wild western adventure with an untamed man. Enter Colby McKay, bull rider, saddle bronc buster and calf roper. He knows he’s found a woman who’s up to the challenge of cutting loose. Intrigued by Channing’s bold proposition to “horse around” on the road, Colby proposes sexual escapades not only in his bed, but in those of his two rodeo traveling partners. Can Channing give up total control? Especially when not all is as it seems with the sexy trio?
I want to start out this review by saying this is the first Cowboy book I have ever read. They are not my cup of tea. I am one of those girls that likes those really bad boys, and thats not the way I saw cowboys. I was given the opportunity to read Ms. James book. I was very skeptical as to whether or not I would enjoy this type of book. When I finish I was more than surprised at the enjoyment that I got from Long Hard Ride!
Colby and Channing are in the same boat in two different worlds. Defying what both their parents want of them. Not ready to settle down and take on the ranch Colby continues on the rodeo circuit to claim the spot of number one ring and taking all the women he can find. Sexy and demanding, Colby caught me quick with his sweet smile and devil of tongue.
Channing is a prim and proper girl with an underlying naughty streak waiting to burst out. Embarking in a wild sexcapade that would leave any woman’s toes curled, Channing might as well been hit by a bull. Raw sexy and commanding men leave her more that lusting. More like down right wanting.
Who knew Cowboys were dirty talking naughty men. Talk about a book being sexy, and erotic, you will turn red just from reading. Ms. James held no bars in this book, including mild BDSM, ménage and a super hot m/m scene. And lots of naughty men. Woot! Formost this is an erotic story and sex content is high. Ms. James also gives a colorful story and deep, heartwarming characters that kept this reader turning the pages.
Long Hard Ride was truly a surprise read for me. I never would have that I would have liked let alone love a cowboy book. Ms. James layed this erotic tale with personality, charm, and passion. Hot and sweet! Ms. James made me like a cowboy book. That something I never thought could happen. Major props to you, Ms. James.
