Top Reads of 2014
Wow, where has this year gone! I can’t believe that Christmas is now over and the new year is upon us. It has been an amazing reading year for me. I read 119 books. Woot! That is a new record for me! I have found new authors that I have come to love. Had some wonderful recommendations that I would have never read otherwise.
So here are my top read for the year. Now mind you some of these book may not have been released in 2014, I did however read them this year, so they count!! LOL!
In no particular order:
Callum by Melissa Schroeder ( Cursed Clan Seires)
Claimed by Stacey Kennedy (Club Sin Series)
Forever Wicked by Shayla Black (Wicked Lovers Series)
Reaper’s Stand by Joanna Wylde (Reaper’s MC Series)
Surive To Dawn by PJ Schnyder (London Undead Series)
Hawk by Patricia A. Rasey (Sons Of Sangue Series)
Dirty Little Secret by Laramie Briscoe (Heaven Hill MC Series)
Preistress Dreaming by Yasmine Galenorn (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon Series)
Storm by Carian Cole (Ashes and Embers Series)
A Santini in Love by Melissa Schroeder (Santini Series)
Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James (Rough Riders Series)
Hard To Come By by Laura Kaye
(names and titles in italics, are new to me in 2014 authors)
I really stepped out of my comfort zone of reading this year. Most people know me as a paranormal girl. I like the things that bite. LOL!
I started reading a lot of contemporary romance this year and have found a passion for MC romance. I also have found a love of military men with lots of tattoos that just kick ass. I am amazed that I read so many books this year but also that I branched out and read things that I normally wouldn’t have. One of my favorite reads this year was a cowboy book. I would have never read a cowboy book had it not been recommended to me. That’s the wonderful thing about reading what I do is that through all the people I’ve met I’m always going to find something new to read. I can’t wait to see what 2015 is going to bring to my world of reading!!
Review: Second Chance Love by Laramie Briscoe
Second Chance Love
Laramie Briscoe
Heaven Hill, MC- Book 6
Expected publication: November 7th 2014
Mistakes
Secrets
Second Chances
Sharon “Roni” Walker and Brandon “Rooster” Hancock have a past. As teenagers and young adults they were lovers, sneaking around, hoping not to get caught. When Rooster took the fall for her, in a crime he didn’t commit, a string of events were set forth that changed lives and ruined friendships.
Seventeen years later they are at a turning point. Secrets have been revealed, mistakes have been forgiven, and now it’s up to them to choose the type of relationship they want.
There’s a passion that burns bright, but at the same time there is a fear that it will all be taken away in the blink of an eye like it was before.
They have a decision to make—do they let go of what could be the happiest time in their life, or do they take a shot on a second chance love?
5 Stars
Roni and Roster’s story is one I have been waiting for in the Heaven Hill, MC series.
Knowing they have a history that spans almost two decades, that took them from lovers to enemies you know it’s going to be one hell of a story. Some secrets have come out but there are still more lingering that leaves the second chance at love in the balance.
Roni and Roster will make you laugh and break your heart all in one. Together they are intense and passionate. Their story is deep, with many ups and downs. These are not kids learning to love. Roster and Roni are trying to rekindling a flame that has gotten to low. Is it letting go or giving in. That’s the thing with love.
Laramie Briscoe continues to amaze me with her growth not only in her writing but the fact that she can put so many emotions into words and let me feel them as I’m reading them off the page. Each book in the Heaven Hill, MC series is an emotional ride. Second Chance Love is a damn good one.
Review-Dirty Little Secret by Laramie Briscoe
Laramie Briscoe
Heaven Hill MC series book 5
Published June 2014 (first published January 1st 2014)
Sister
Lone survivor
Scared, but tough
Christine Stone has lived through a lot since the day she was born. Her older brother left her without a backwards glance, leaving her with parents who wanted to use her to better themselves in their cult-like religious sect.
Days after legally becoming an adult, she’s given to an older man for an arranged marriage that will change her life forever. Escape is the only way her life can be saved. When she succeeds and sets out to make a new life for herself, she meets Travis Steele—communications and security officer for the Heaven Hill MC.
Loner
Protector of secrets
Level-headed and steady
Travis Steele has been on the periphery of the Heaven Hill MC for a long time. Quiet, he takes his job seriously. He is the protector of the group, in charge with keeping family and friends safe.
When one meeting with the sister of his friend turns into more, he struggles with where to draw the line. She needs a friend, and Travis prides himself in being what other people need, often sacrificing himself for others. As he discovers the life that Christine has been forced to live, it opens up old wounds, new wounds, and secrets that everyone thought long buried.
Turning a chance meeting into love is hard, especially when everyone has a dirty little secret.
Christine is a battered woman, but far from broken. A survivor. Strong but scared of her own shadow. Trying to keep the past behind her, she did not keep her head down at the time and caught the eye of the one man whom can both help and hurt her. Trust and truth are the two hardest thing for Christine. The are no words for Christine strength. Even with trying to make a new life for herself, she puts the well being of those she loves above herself.
Steele smart and quite. If there is such a thing as a geeky bad ass bike, that would be Steele. Trusted with the clubs safety, the man is tech genus in his own right. Don’t let the glasses fool you, he can and will kick your ass. Under the leather and tats is man that goes above and beyond to show a woman that has been hanging by a thread that there are good men in the world. Helping Christine puts his ass in the line with the club. When the danger she is running from puts heat on the club, Steeles has more than one Dirty Little Secret surface.
This is one powerhouse of a book. How Ms. Briscoe is able to write a bad ass who is so caring, sweet and self giving is beyond me. Travis Steele takes the cake on that one. With each book of the Heaven Hill MC series, not only do we get this awesome story of the put together family and the f-ed up stuff that happens to them that makes us love them. We see a writer that has really found her place in this world of books, that I love. Ms. Briscoe has pure talent for character writing. Making each of her lead men very distinctive and very memorial. Creating a family with a vast range of personalities , qualities and flaws that make me want to keep reading.
Dirty Little Secret is to date Ms. Briscoes best book in my opinion. Dark secrets line a complex story that test brotherhood and loyalty. A book that will make your heart heavy to read and a lasting smile upon completion. Ms.Briscoe holds nothing back with Dirty Little Secret.
Review- Worth The Battle by Laramie Briscoe
Author: Laramie Briscoe
Series: Heaven Hill MC, Book 4
Format: ebook
Published: February 25th 2014
Movie star running from her life.
Secret writer of erotic romance.
Trusts only Layne O’Connor of the Heaven Hill MC.
When Jessica Shea fears that her privacy is in danger, she takes the drastic step to leave her life behind and escape to the only person who’s never treated her like the movie star she is. He’s the one person who’s never sold a story to the tabloids and who knows the real Jessica, the one underneath the makeup and high-gloss shine of Hollywood.
Their friendship has stood the test of time. Now, someone has stolen private photos and writings from her home. Things that she doesn’t want the public at large to see. There’s only one place she knows she can go to be under the radar and lick her wounds.
That place is wherever Layne O’Connor is.
War Veteran.
Striving to live a normal life.
Member of the Heaven Hill MC.
Layne left a piece of himself in the war zone. Fighting PTSD and demons that he can’t explain has left him tired and changed from the man he was before he went overseas.
The only thing he feels like he excels at anymore is being a criminal, and he gladly does it for his brothers of the Heaven Hill MC. The only people who took him in when no one else knew what to make of his anger and
When Jessica arrives, however, she’s a trigger for everything he’s trying to forget. She makes him remember who he was before his life went to hell, she makes him want to get himself back. While working through those issues, he and Jessica are racing against an unknown enemy—someone who wants to destroy her reputation and take her sweetheart persona with it.
As they both work to trust each other and figure out just who her enemies are, they learn that love is never easy. They have to decide if the victory is worth the battle.
Layne has seen more than anyone person at his age should have to being a war veteran. Being part of the Heaven Hill MC has given him family and a way to continue the living in life the fast lane . Horrors from his days in the military plague Layne to this day. Sweet, caring, fierce and loyal. Did I mention sexy with great taste in cars. When a special friend from the past asks for Laynes help, he can’t refuse. Layne soon realizes that he may be more of a danger to her, than what she’s running from.
Jessica has been in the spotlight from a young age. As one grows they things they like, need or want in life changes. This statement could not be more true for Jessica. The Hollywood starlet who is a bit spoiled and is in trouble. Jess calls the one person on the earth who will not judge her and will help. Jess, overwhelmed will everything going on, realizes that Layne just maybe in more trouble than herself.
I keep saying this with each book. Ms. Briscoe just gets better with each book of the Heaven Hill MC, Series. Worth the Battle is a little different from the other books of the series. Our hero needs needs the healing more than our lead lady. Ms. Briscoe perfectly unfold the nastiness that lies with in Layne’s head while emotions from one end of the spectrum and back are laid on the table. Through laughter and tears Layne and Jess will make their way into your heart. Ms. Briscoe has a magical way with words. She has continued to pull me in more and more as we learn of this MC family! With each book not only does the story become deeper emotionally, the growth Ms. Briscoe has achieved as a writer can not go unnoticed. She has quickly found a permanent spot on my shelve.
I was given an ecopy of this book from the author/publisher for an honest review.
MEANT TO BE by Laramie Briscoe
MEANT TO BE (HEAVEN HILL, MC #1)
Laramie Briscoe
Kindle Edition, 201 pages
Loyal brother. Grease monkey mechanic. Vice President of the Heaven Hill Motorcycle Club.
William Walker Jr., known as Liam to his club, needs a new recruit that is just naïve enough and desperate enough to do what he asks without question. When Denise Cunningham lands in his lap, he decides to hire her – not because he wants to, because he has to. Neither are comfortable in their new roles, but he needs help and she can’t stand to lose anything else.As bullets fly and a local Bowling Green, KY reporter works to bring the club down, Liam and Denise find themselves getting closer to one another. When the stakes get high and outside forces try to keep them away from each other, they have to decide if they really are meant to be.
I have fallen in love with reading Biker Romance. It’s dirty, raw and downright sexy! Alpha men who are willing to live the life they want by any means needed. Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll don’t even begin to describe the biker lifestyle. It walks a line while living on the edge. To me love is like walking a line and hanging on the edge.
Laramie Briscoe induces us to the Heaven Hill, MC and sets the stage for her series with MEANT TO BE.
Liam, VP of the MC is not the typical Biker. Yes, he’s Alpha, tattooed, intimating, and sex on a bike. He looks at things differently for a Biker. He has a conscience. He cares. He takes on a roll that some could never do. A bad ass Biker with a sense of romance, he more than had me at “date night”.
Denise, I understand almost too much. Forced into a position that would have most people calling the cops, she does it to feed and put a roof over her twins head. She is strong and brave in ways that only a mother can understand. Lacking passion for the life of her children, we see Denise get her womanhood back. She also has to learn to trust in someone other than herself. A true test in itself.
Laramie Briscoe’s MEANT TO BE is not only the kind of hard edged Biker story that I love, it has warmth that I have never found in a Biker Romance before. She has brought to life a cast of unique characters that had my heart in pages. Each seemed so real and makes you like them each for a different reason. Even the ones you don’t want too. The plot is fast paced that had me turning pages from beginning to end. Some may say that MEANT TO BE is light for a Biker Romance, and I say NO! There are moments that will make you cringe and some may make you blush. I feel Ms. Briscoe does a fine job of walking the line with MEANT TO BE! While the overall plot of this book had seen it conclusion, we get to see the lines forming for the upcoming books in the Heaven Hill MC series.
A great start to what I believe will be a wonderful MC series.
I was gifted this book from the awesome Slick Reads. I met Slick at #RAGT14 – Lori Foster’s Reader, Author Get Together! She and I share a passion for reading steamy romances! I am glad to have met her and am very glad we are friends! You rock Slick!!
