Review: Closer by Kylie Scott

About CLOSER:
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series…
When a stalker gets too close to plus-size model Mae Cooper, it’s time to hire some muscle.
Enter former military man turned executive protection officer Ziggy Thayer. Having spent years guarding billionaires, royalty, and rock n roll greats, he’s seen it all. From lavish parties through to every kind of excess.
There’s no reason some Instagram stylista should throw him off his game. Even if she does have the most dangerous curves he’s ever seen…
**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do. **
Excerpt:
I’d had bodyguards before. But only for events like fashion week or a big shoot. Just for a limited amount of time. My contract with Ziggy, however, was open ended, dependent on the heart in the box situation. Once he’d grilled me about what the police were doing (investigating my entire life), my routine (I don’t really have one. It’s consumed by work), and my calendar for the next few days (I’d freed up time to finish unpacking and then back to work on my lingerie line), he drove me to the gym. There was one I used a couple of times in the apartment building, but I generally do better with some active encouragement and guidance.
Guess Ziggy approved of my Land Rover because he gave it another one of those almost-smiles. I, however, continued to receive the full professional cold front face. This was definitely going to take some getting used to.
“Who’s your shadow?” asked Kwana, my awesome trainer.
I paused mid-lunge, my breath coming hard and fast. “My bodyguard, Ziggy. You like him?”
“He’s pretty. Don’t stop, keep moving.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“You don’t usually have one of them around. Have you been getting hassled or something?”
Kwana stood with her arms crossed, all lean muscles beneath brown skin. Since we were in an open area at the end of the main part of the gym, Ziggy waited over by the wall, just out of earshot. He stood with his arms loose at his side, his gaze constantly wandering a circuit from me—around the room, over to the exits, and back again. Always on alert.
“More a precaution than anything,” I said.
No matter how much I liked Kwana, no one outside my inner circle needed to know about the incident. The fewer people who found out about the gross cow heart and knife the better.
There’d been no further news from the police. Though it was never likely they’d track down a suspect and charge that person the next day.
Case closed, hooray!

Mae Cooper is as confident as she is beautiful. Mae is a model that is not the size of a toothpick. She’s naturally beautiful and has the eye and passion for fashion. She’s a bit of a walk calamity at times but has a great sense of humor to go along with it. With fame comes fans and sometimes those fans do things that make you have to look over your shoulder. Enter the need for a bodyguard. A bodyguard that has Mae’s body wanting to be guarded in more ways than one.
Ziggy Thayer ex military now turned bodyguard to the stars. High profile clients are nothing new to him. The hottie of a man is always about the job. Getting involved with clients is something he doesn’t do. Until a curvy model who is in her beauty outweighs her outer by far has him thinking about more than protecting his charge.
Kylie Scott gives the Stage Dive groupies another wonderful chapter to the story with Closer. Mae is an amazing character all around. Mae is herself and I love that about her. I loved the moment that Ziggy lost his control and realized that Mae was more than a job. That photo shoot!!!!!! Visiting with the Stage Dive family is always a treat. You can always count on Mal to put a smile on your face. Mae and Ziggy had chemistry from the moment they set eyes on each other. From the nervous rambling, the back-and-forth banter and also hot moments, these two were made for each other. Just the right about of suspense added in to make Closer a fine afternoon or late night read!

Montgomery Ink Boulder Series, Book 1
Published: September 10, 2019
The Montgomery Ink saga continues with a new series set in Boulder, where a family secret might just change everything.
One mistake at a friend’s wedding rocks Liam Montgomery’s entire world, and everything he thought was true turns out to be a lie. But when an accident lands him in the ER, Liam meets someone that might just be the distraction he needs.
Arden Brady has spent her life in and out of hospitals. But according to the world, she doesn’t look sick. She’s lost jobs and friends because they don’t see beneath the surface, but she’s learned to rely on her family and herself to keep going. And then she meets Liam.
With two sets of overprotective siblings and a puppy that can’t help but get into everything, Liam and Arden might just fall harder than either one ever expected.

4 Stars
Who would have thought going to a friends wedding would change your life. Liam Montgomery discovered two things after a narrow miss and a trip to the hospital. One secrets hurt but only tear you apart if you let them and two, unexpected things happen when you look for them the least.
Liam Montgomery, former model turned best selling author is 100% Montgomery. Talent seems to have a way of coming with Montgomery name and family means everything to him. A bit of a recluse due to the nature of his work, Liam has a soft and caring spirit I didn’t expect. His world got turned upside down and inside out. I admire his willingness to want to think things out and not jump to conclusions. Time and a distraction is what Liam thinks he needs.
Arden just wants to live her life. Diagnosed with lupus, Arden fight a battle with her body on a daily basis. Some days are better than others. A smart and intelligent woman with a passion for research. An avid reader, that we all can relate too. Arden is an extremely strong character. She doesn’t do it because she wants to she does it because she has to and she knows no other way. Using her mind and the resources she has to adjust her job around the way she can work even on a bad day. Leaving with a disease is not easy and too many times Arden has watched good people walk away from her life.
Neither Liam or Arden would have thought in a million years that a trip to the ER would have love staring them right in the face. A freak accident at a wedding and a Lupus flare up made to strangers smile at one another one when smiling was the last thing on your mind. Wrapped in Ink is all wrapped in emotions and healing. Liam and Arden met by chance and then ran into each other again by chance. Their easy nature with each other allow their personalities to shine through even while going through their personal battles. Arden and Liam have enough in common other personalities mesh well allowing their chemistry to come through naturally. Wrapped in Ink is a heavy story with a happy end, that is total Montgomery.

Fire Mates Series, Book 4
Published: September 5, 2019
Look, no one ever said fighting your destiny was going to be easy. But surely it was never meant to be this pleasurable either? What’s a dragon shifter to do when every plan she has goes up in smoke?
Producer Reece Collier is brand new to her position on Sunrise in Sydney when a chance meeting with her fated mate threatens everything she’s worked for. Never mind that Kellan Donovan is the most gorgeous thing on two legs; her parents were a prime example of how finding your Fire Mate can ruin your life. Still, despite employing every trick at her disposal, Reece is completely unprepared for the mating fire…and just how much it makes her burn for the dragon.
Thanks to his good looks and a koala video gone viral, firefighter Kellan Donovan is the “face” of the state’s fire brigade and rescue service. Not exactly the normal job for a dragon shifter to be sure, but Kellan loves it —but it’s seriously in jeopardy when he meets his Fire Mate, unexpectedly, just minutes before being interviewed on live TV. Hell, how is he going to control himself?
No one said finding a mate would be easy, and Kellan and Reece have more than one obstacle keeping them from consummating their destiny. His coworker…her reluctance…a few deadly crossbow bolts…
***A Note From Lexxie: The Fire Mates series is all insta-love, fated mates, scorching heat on every level, action, adventure, danger, fun, bone-melting pleasure and HEAs. Are you ready to fly with the dragons of Australia?***

4 Stars
Enter dragon number one- super hot fire fighter Kellan Donovan. Enter dragon number -two- Reece Collier beautiful up and coming TV producer. What should be a simple television interview about fire prevention has sparks flying in more ways than one. However when one tries or to fight what fate has in store and the other wants to give in, well ……….
The attraction is there, the temptation is there and the chemistry is out of control. Fire mates. Fated. Kellan and Reece feel it, see it and smell it as soon as they meet. The urge to be together is beyond strong and blindsided the mind. Independence and self well try to make a stand but in the end fate always has a way of getting what she wants.
Enter the Dragon is a quick, intense and hot read. Miss Couper’s Version of Insta love is not quite the same as everyone else’s. I love the intensity, Reece’s determination to try to change her nature but in the end gave into her nature. Kellan’s true to his nature in wanting what it is fate has given him. For a quick read, Enter the Dragon has everything one would need from a paranormal romance. The characters have personality, the details of the dragons are amazing and the intensity of the intimacy is on fire.

Review: Wild Spirit by Mari Carr

Wild Spirit
Mari Carr
Wilder Irish Series, Book 8
Published September 3, 2019
Maybe if things were different, Leo could date the woman he’s always longed for, the free-spirited Yvonne Collins. For her, life is an adventure, for him, life is all about work and keeping things simple so he can focus on his son.
When a tragic event upends Leo’s orderly existence, he’s forced to admit he can’t do it all and he can’t do it alone. Yvonne feels like exactly what Leo doesn’t need, until she shows him chaos isn’t always bad and letting go isn’t the same thing as losing control.

4.5 Stars
I know two things for sure when ever I pick up a Mari Carr book. One, I know I’m getting a good laugh and two, the romance of the story will be epic. Wild Spirit, the eighth book of the Wilder Irish Series is a fantastic friends to lovers tale.
Yvonne is a wild spirit. As she says living life like a Collins. She independent, confident and contagious. Vonnie is the best type of person to be around. A woman that can go with the flow yet knows when to step in and put her foot done. Being an only child may have spoiled Yvonne, yet the woman shares every bit of what she has. Vonnie is a unique soul.
Leo is a workaholic and a man who stands by his word. He’s also a tatted up hottie to boot. Leo is one of the good guys. He’s Dedicated to his job and his family, which do you coincide. Leo’s life took a tumble but through the struggle he learn what friends are for. He also learned that sometimes friends are more than you think the are.
Wild Spirit is fantastic. Leo and Yvonne are each other’s yin and yang. Their friendship is something both treasure dearly yet Yvonne lingering crush and Leo realizing there’s more that meets the eye makes them both see each other in a new and different light. These two are fun together. Through the ups and downs, trying to make it work, smoothing out the hiccups Leo and Yvonne will make the reader smile. There compassion for each other just adds to the passion they discover together. Let me tell you, these two are not as sweet as you may think. I do believe they could rival each other in a dirty talking contest. We will have to flip a coin to figure out the winner. Lol!
Mari Carr has this way of capturing her readers in so many ways with her stories. Whether it be through laughter and humor, emotion and healing or passion and steaminess, she will hook you one way or another. Luckily for us readers, we get all of that in Wild Spirit.
